Ironically, for a hotel-branded card, opportunities to earn points and free nights are limited. Cardholders will earn 3 points per dollar on over 7,000 hotels participating in the Marriott Bonvoy program, 2 points per dollar on other travel purchases (from airfare to cabs and trains), and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases. These are lackluster earning rates, given the average cost of redeeming a free room.

The welcome bonus is 30,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. While there are opportunities to earn much higher bonuses, it is a fair option for customers looking for a lower minimum spending threshold and not wanting to pay an annual fee.
